Review - Hawke's Bay Today, Monday April 30th - by Peter Williams.

"Mozart's Coronation Mass is a stunning example of the composer's art.  Tenor Frank Carter and baritone Richard Harris combined with Rebecca Ryan, Anna Pierard and the choir, in a very exciting presentation - a continuous stream of sparkling solos, ensemble numbers and choruses, together with many very expressive contrasts."

    • Brahms - Alto Rhapsody

    • Mozart - Excerpts from La Clemensa Di Tito

    Handel's "Messiah" ---- December 2011

Soloists: Morag Atchison - soprano, Kate Spence - alto, Oliver Sewell - tenor,  Jared Holt - bass

" A complete presentation of Handel's Messiah is a rare occurrence.  The Napier Civic Choir are congratulated in achieving this with integrity and consistent musicality through the performance.  Conductor, Jose Aparicio inspired the large, well-balanced group to sing with effective dynamics, attention to baroque style and a refinement and cohesion of tone quality throughout. This Messiah will be long remembered by an audience who showed their enthusiastic appreciation to Aparicio for his outstanding direction."

Choral Music by Hawke's Bay Composers ---  September 2011

"This was certainly an innovative concert ---  The idea certainly caught on - there was a large audience present who were on their feet at the end in standing ovation, obviously keen to support the local composers, and having greatly enjoyed the music performed."

    "Creation" by Joseph Haydn --
    April 2011

    Ileana Otto-Johansen - soprano
    Oliver Sewell - tenor
    Joseph Christensen - bass

"---there was no doubt about the success of this performance.  At the end, the capacity audience was on its feet in a prolonged standing ovation.  This was the first outing for new musical director, Jose Aparicio, and the future certainly looks rosy for the choir under his ebullient, precisely musical, detailed and charismatic direction.
